Between the Sheets
Between the Sheets is a video installation that invites each viewer into a world of
peaceful seclusion. Like a spirit to this world, a girl leads viewers through the
installation space, which is configured in winding turns and curves. She is but a
projection, as is the forest to which she guides the viewer.
Multiple projectors paint the "walls" of the installation’s corridor. These walls are white cloths and sheets hung from the ceiling that act like screens. They serve to not
only provide a base for projection, but they also provide privacy. Only one viewer at a
time is allowed to enter the installation. Once inside, s/he finds himself alone with the
video-character, in intimate interaction with her as she guides the user through the maze of
white.
As the viewer progresses through the corridor, s/he will come upon a forest projection that traces the corridor. The once-silence environment becomes filled with birdsong as the
passageway leads to a larger and encompassing projection, filled with trees, grass, and
sky. Here, the viewer is given the opportunity of relaxing seclusion and peaceful
contemplation—a privacy rare to today’s busy world. The viewer is also welcomed to stay as
long as they like, fostering intimacy with the space… fostering intimacy with one's self; a quiet escape from interruption.
